What is Acupuncture and Shiatsu?

Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles on acu-points situated on lines of energy around the body called meridians. Shiatsu is simply applying finger, thumb or palm pressure to these points instead of a needle and is usually practised through clothing.

There are twelve meridians that traverse the body. Good health is a nice, even flow of energy through-out the circuit. Pain, for example, is a blockage of energy and the needles, or applying acu-pressure (shiatsu), are the tools with which we unblock it. Shiatsu is used in conjunction with acupuncture for optimum results.

What does acupuncture feel like? Does it hurt?

When the slender needle is inserted in the acu-point the patient is asked if they can feel it. Most people say they can’t feel anything at all and a few describe a slight tingling sensation.

Testimonials

Bernard Nolan first came to see me a couple of years ago when I had gout in my foot. The medication I had previously been taking caused a bad reaction. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly the acupuncture removed the symptoms of gout. Subsequently Bernard has been treating me once a week for general well being and for those occasions when my gout flares up. I can't speak highly enough of him.

After many failed attempts at stopping smoking I was determined to succeed. I can’t thank Bernard enough for his treatment. Every time I got the urge to smoke I just pressed the points in my ear and that stopped the craving straight away! I have now stopped for good.
